Ernest Q. Boone Hebert, Sr., 83, of Boone's Corner died Wednesday October 24, 2012 in a local hospital.
Mr. Hebert was a lifelong resident of Grand Lake. He was a graduate of Grand Lake High School and Sowela Technical Institute and served the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hebert was a founding member of the Grand Lake Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Woodmen of the World. He was the only Ham Radio Operator in the community during the devastation of Hurricane Audrey; Mr. Hebert made runs from his store, taking supplies to the school which was the evacuation shelter. He also was an active participant in the search and rescue efforts. He developed family land and in 1955, Mr. Hebert opened Boone's Corner, a gas, service and grocery station and has along with his family continued to be successful for fifty-seven years now, leaving quite a legacy. He was also honored many years ago when Representative Conway LeBleu officially named Boone's Corner with its own place on the map.
During his younger years, Mr. Hebert was very talented and enjoyed swimming. During his later years he could often be found playing cards. He will be most remembered for his Boudreaux and Thibodeaux jokes and story telling.
He leaves to honor his memory, his wife of sixty years, Agnes Hebert Hebert; one son, Ernest Butch Hebert, Jr. and wife Christine; one daughter, Ernette Q. Hebert Nash, all of Boone's Corner; three grandchildren, Corlissa Nash Hoffoss and husband Lee of Lake Charles, Vincent Callan Fox and wife Elise and Chanler Jade Borel, of Boone's Corner; four great-grandchildren, Sydney Quinn Hoffoss, Grayson Lee Hoffoss and John McCallister Max Hoffoss, all of Lake Charles and Kirin Djinrai Fox of Boone's Corner and one brother, Edward Pig Hebert of Lake Charles.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth McCallister Hebert; two brothers, Wilson Grow Hebert and Robert Booster Hebert and son-in-law, Corliss Dean Nash.
Visitation Saturday, October 27, 2012 will be from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. A procession taking Mr. Hebert for one more drive to Boone's Corner will leave the funeral home shortly after 2:00 PM. His family welcomes the community to gather at Boone's Corner where the procession should pass around 2:30 PM. Interment at Consolata Cemetery will be private.
