Ernest Edgar Carnahan, Jr., 91, of Lake Charles, LA, was promoted to Glory at 10:30 PM on Wednesday, May 17, 2017.
Mr. Carnahan was born January 28, 1926 in Sulphur Mines, LA and lived all of his life in Lake Charles. He served his country during WWII and the Korean Conflict in both the Army Air Corps and the U.S. Air Force. He worked many years for the IBEW Local #861 as an electrician. Following his retirement in 1991, he volunteered at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, where he gave over 2000 hours. He also enjoyed volunteer work for the Salvation Army. Mr. Carnahan was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God, where he taught Sunday School, volunteered as a Greeter, was a part of Young at Heart and the Royal Rangers and the Bible Study Fellowship. He enjoyed fixing things around the house and could conquer anything set before him. He will always be remembered as a kind and loving man with a happy smile and a twinkle in his eye.
Mr. Carnahan is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Irma Knight Carnahan; sons, Randy Carnahan and wife Tara of Daphne, AL, Bryan Carnahan and wife Wanda of Lake Charles and Wes Carnahan and wife Tammy of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Chad Carnahan, Jared Carnahan and wife Allison, Jonathan Carnahan, Marlon Carnahan and wife Kristen, Allison Carnahan Cryer and husband Jared, Garrett Carnahan and wife Brooke, and Austin Carnahan; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Ethan, Max, Coy, Taylor, Cooper, Tristen, Iris and Angelo; and a host of much loved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louise Scherry and Ernest E. Carnahan, Sr.; son, Gregory Lynn Carnahan; and brothers, Edgar Earl Carnahan, George Charles Carnahan, and Curtis Clinton Carnahan.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverends Gary Evers and Ray Hundley will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.
