Ernest Melvin Jones

Ernest M. Jones, 87, of Lake Charles, LA went to be with his Lord and Savior at 1:50 AM on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 in a local hospital.

Mr. Jones was born June 3, 1925 in Robeline, LA to James Alexander Jones and Annie Greenlee Jones. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was stationed in Germany. Ernest retired from Cities Service after thirty-seven years of service. He opened Jones Nursery where his green thumb flourished. He loved to garden, cook, and share his joy with others. Ernest was ordained a Deacon at Boulevard Baptist Church in 1974 and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Mr. Jones is survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Lynda Jane McCaskill Jones; five daughters, Beth Conrad of Lake Charles, Donna Smith of Marion, AR, Patsy Farmer of Prairieville, LA, Cheryl McCaskill of Memphis, TN and Angie Sylvester of South Haven, MS. He was loved by numerous nieces and nephews and in-laws, Buddy and Mary McCaskill.

He was preceded in death by seven siblings; an infant brother, Ethel Tauzin, Sybil Webb, J.C. Jones, Rubye Welch, A.J. Jones, and Bessie Clouser.

His funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Lake Charles. Dr. John White will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Saturday at the church from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
