Ervin Leroy Stein

Ervin LeRoy Stein, 89, of Lake Charles passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2015 in his residence surrounded by his family. Mr. Stein was born on January 13, 1926 in New Iberia and lived in Lake Charles all of his life. He was a graduate of Landry High School and attended McNeese State University for two years. Mr. Stein served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946. He began a 42 year career with Southern Pacific Railroad as a switchman and was a member of the Lake Charles United Transportation Union where he served as a past treasurer. Mr. Stein was a long time member of St. Margaret Catholic Church. He and his wife traveled extensively for many years following retirement. Mr. Stein had enjoyed gardening in recent years. Those left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of nearly 68 years, Eloise Fontenot Stein; four daughters and their spouses, Mary Jane Guidroz and Ronnie of Iowa, Jackie Landry and Keith of Moss Bluff, Sue Cavys and Sam of Ragley, and Peggy LeBlanc and Ray of Sulphur; four sons, Tim Stein of Lake Charles, Mike Stein and wife Sandy of Westlake, Mark Stein and wife Karen of Moss Bluff, and Paul Stein of Lake Charles; a sister, Elaine Gary of Lake Charles; nineteen grandchildren; and thirty-two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldridge and Edna Pesson Stein and a sister, Eldride Harper. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM on Monday, July 6, 2015 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Lacassine Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will begin on Monday at 2:00 PM and will continue until the start of the rosary at 5:30 PM.
