Ester Dorhauer Earhart

Esther Ruth Dorhauer Earhart passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2012.


Mrs. Earhart was born in New Orleans on April 5, 1918 and lived in Lake Charles since 2003. A graduate of McMain High School in New Orleans, she earned a degree in Music from Newcomb College. She was owner and operator of Miss Esther's Day School in Metairie, until she married Robert Earhart in 1948.


After moving to Covington in 1956, Mrs. Earhart was a founding member, and later president, of the Town Country Garden Club in Covington. She was active in her church, Christ Episcopal Church in Covington, serving as a Sunday School teacher, among other things. She was a volunteer at St. Tammany Hospital for many years. Her interest included gardening, crafts, swimming and most especially, her children and grandchildren.


"MeMe" leaves to honor her memory her two sons, Robert Hailes Earhart, Jr. and wife Catherine, of Baton Rouge and Philip Charles Earhart and wife Lucie, of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Robert Hailes Earhart, III of Baton Rouge, Carolyn Earhart Whittington and husband Daniel of Columbia, SC, Lydia Elizabeth Earhart of Lafayette, and Christine Adele Earhart and her husband, Paul Mayeur of Troy, NY; great-grandson, Nathan Hailes Whittington; and many nieces and nephews.


Mrs. Earhart was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hailes Earhart; parents, Charles and Esther Dorhauer of Metairie; her brother, Charles Dorhauer, Jr.; and sister, Dorothy Dorhauer Lashley of Metairie.


She was a member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Lake Charles. Her family wishes to thank Villa Maria Retirement Center, Resthaven Nursing Center, and Brighton Bridge Hospice for their loving care over the years. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Episcopal Day School at 803 N. Division Street, Lake Charles, LA 70601.


Her memorial service will be 12:00 PM on Friday, March 30, 2012 at St. Michael and All Angel Episcopal Church. Father Peter Cook will officiate. A gathering of friends will be at the church from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.
