Esther Mae Esthay Mere

Esther Mae Esthay Mere, 90, of Lake Charles, LA passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Mere was born on September 22, 1927, in Evangeline, LA to Oscar and Empress Thibodeaux Esthay, Jr.

She married her husband, Louis Mere, Sr. in March of 1946, and made her home in Lake Charles. Esther worked for a time as a salesperson at Muller’s Department Store and then began babysitting in her home for 20 years. She enjoyed crocheting, baking, cooking and gardening. She also loved genealogy and especially loved organizing family functions.  

Mrs. Mere is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years along with her parents. She is also preceded by her daughter, Mary Jane Mere Bertrand and her son Louis Mere, Jr.

Those left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Lois Mere (Clayton) Darbone, Sr., Doris Mere (Joe) Voussine Jr., and Kathy Mere Leger. Those who will especially cherish her memory are her 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday May 30, 2018 from 4-8PM at Johnson Funeral Home with a Rosary being recited at 6PM. Visitation will continue at the funeral home beginning at 10AM on Thursday, May 31, 2018 with the funeral service beginning at 11AM officiated by Msgr. Harry Greig. Burial will be at St. Anthony Cemetery in Lake Arthur, LA. under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
