Ethel Marie DeRouen, 79, of Lake Charles passed away, surrounded by family on Saturday, February 1, 2014 in a Lafayette hospital. Mrs. DeRouen was born on May 16, 1934 in Lake Charles and resided here all of her life. She was a graduate of LaGrange Senior High School where she later taught Business Education after obtaining her Master's Degree plus 30 in education from McNeese State University. Mrs. DeRouen was a teacher and a Cooperative Office Education Coordinator at LaGrange. She was gifted with a special heart, touching many lives. She will never be forgotten for what she instilled in many students and left an eternal impression on them. She retired after 29 years of teaching. She and her husband enjoyed retirement by spending time in their motor home. Those left to cherish her memory are her dedicated husband of 58 years, Ray DeRouen of Lake Charles; one son, Lee DeRouen of Westlake; three daughters and their husbands, Debbie LaFleur and Mike of LeBleu Settlement, Cheryl Miller and Gerard of Lacassine, and Becky Phillips and Tommy of Iowa; a sister, Gwen Hebert of Moss Bluff; ten grandchildren, Jessica Stelly, Duston Erwin, Kayla Hebert, Garrett, Jordan, and Sean Miller, Erik Barthels, Matthew Phillips, and Faith and Josh Gragg; twenty great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Donald Ray DeRouen; a brother, Arnold "Blue" Gaspard; half sister, Sybil LeBleu; and half brother, Frannie Gaspard. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jeff Starkovich will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Monday from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
