Ethel Marie Stutes Derouen

Ethel Stutes Derouen passed away August 22, 2023 in Houston, Texas. 

She was born to Clarence and Sadie (Touchet) Stutes on August 29, 1930 in Duson, Louisiana.  She was a long-time resident of Lake Charles, LA until the late 1990’s when she moved to Katy, Texas.  She is predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Sadie Stutes, and her brothers, Raymond Stutes and Emery Stutes of Lake Charles, LA.

Ethel was first married to Rayward Joseph Gary (deceased) and is predeceased in death by her son, Roland Joseph Gary, and her daughter Marsha Gary Butaud. Ethel later married Wilfred “Billy” Derouen (now deceased).

She is survived by her daughter, Joan Gary Fontenot and Son-In-Law, Jeffery Fontenot who reside in Richmond, Texas; her five grandchildren: Shawn Butaud Keith (husband-Dan) of Ohio; Heath Butaud of Texas; Aaron Butaud (wife-Leslie) of Texas; Justin Fontenot (wife-Leia) of Texas; Jessica Fontenot Johnson (husband-Mike) of Texas. She was blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Zoe Keith, Daniel Keith, Carter Fontenot, Caleb Fontenot, Sadie Fontenot, Oliver Johnson, Ethan Johnson, and Jacob Brown.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 28, 2023 in the Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles Chapel. Deacon Harold Nixon will preside. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM on Sunday evening at the funeral home, and will continue until 7:00 PM, with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Monday morning at 10:00 AM, and will continue until the start of the service at 11:00 AM.
