Wallace Eugene Fletcher, 71, of Lake Charles died on January 22, 2013 in the hospital.
Mr. Fletcher was born in Pineville, Louisiana, to Nelson and Sallie VanCleave Fletcher. He was a 1959 graduate of Verda High School in Verda, Louisiana. Mr. Fletcher attended USL in Lafayette, LA, on a Math scholarship. He began his career as Farm Manager of Montgomery Farm and Hatchery, which produced pork and poultry that was sold throughout the state of Louisiana.
In 1971, he purchased the business and began a retail business known as Fletcher's Feed and Farm Supply. Mr. Fletcher was also very active in raising cattle, and farming rice and soybeans. He was a big supporter of the Calcasieu Parish 4-H Livestock Program for many years. After retiring in 2008, he continued his love of fishing and hunting with his grandchildren. He also loved to cook for family gathering and his many loyal friends.
Gene was also a faithful and well respected Elder of his Christian faith for many years.
Mr. Fletcher is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Linda Louise Montgomery Fletcher of Lake Charles; one son, Troy Nelson and his wife Jenny and their children, Emerald and Remington Fletcher and Ashley Benoit, along with 2 great grandchildren, Hayden Benoit and Aubree Guillory also of Lake Charles.
Two daughters, Nancy Louise Stephens of Plano, Texas and her children, Corey of Macomb, IL, Taylor and Carson Stephens of Plano, Texas, and Mary Elizabeth Fontenot and husband Scottie of Lake Charles along with their children Austin and Cameron Bass, and Caden and Claire Fontenot of Lake Charles.
Mr. Fletcher was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, G. A. Fletcher.
Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles, LA, on Sunday, January 27, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm and will continue on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. The funeral service for Mr. Fletcher will be held on Monday, January 28, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home. Rev. Gilbert Reece and Rev. Gaylon VanLoon will officiate. Interment will be at Prien Memorial Park.
