Eugenia "Jean Bertrand O'Neal, 77, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 6:10 PM on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 in a local hospital. Mrs. O'Neal was born December 5, 1936 in Mamou, LA and was a 1955 graduate of Mamou High School. She has lived in Lake Charles since 1956 and previously worked at the Lake Charles American Press, the Calcasieu Parish Library, and at Abe's Grocery Store on School Street. She was strong in her faith and a member of St. Luke-Simpson United Methodist Church, where she served as an usher and was a member of MANA. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed traveling, playing card games with her family, computers, and cross stitching. She also enjoyed researching genealogy and traced her family back to the 1300's. She was a very giving lady and loved her family and her grandchildren. She will be missed dearly. Mrs. O'Neal is survived by her loving husband of fifty-five years, Milton D. O'Neal; son, Bryan Keith O'Neal and wife Sheryl and their children, Joshua O'Neal and girlfriend, Peyton Beninate and Clint O'Neal and girlfriend, Victoria Gaffney and her son, Bentley; daughter, Kimberly Ann Legnion and husband Kevin and their children, Nicole Legnion, Taylor Legnion, and Lance Armentor and wife Samantha and their children, Sylvia and Relic; sister, Joyce Darbonne of Mamou, LA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Saline Reed Bertrand; sisters, Rose Granger and Helen Bertrand; and brother, Atney Bertrand. Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 18, 2014 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Jack O'Dell will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a scripture reading at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Friday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
