Eula Mae Viator, born Derouen, passed away on July 16, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. We know in our hearts the memory of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend will be a happy one.
Born 91 years ago on March 11, 1927 on Avery Island, LA to Dutille Joseph & Sedonie Marie (Dubois) Derouen, she was the eldest of 6 children and her mother’s right hand. She married her one and only, Sulie Joseph Viator, on March 17, 1946. Upon marrying the newlyweds moved to Lake Charles wherethey raised their six children.
Eula Mae retired from the Calcasieu Parish School Board after dedicating many years to cafeteria food services at Central Elementary School, Pearl Watson Elementary School and Ralph Wilson Elementary School.
Eula Mae was a friend to all and spoke only in kindness. She loved drinking coffee with friends and family, cooking, sewing and embroidery work, gardening and most of all babysitting her grandchildren. She was a caretaker in every sense of the word and her work ethic was unsurpassed. She meant so much to so many and no one ever went away without a smile.
A devout Catholic she was a long-time member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Lake Charles, LA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sulie Joseph Viator, parents Dutille & Sedonie Derouen, brother Junious Derouen, sister Louella DerouenBonin, sister Georgie Derouen Sevin, grandson Sean James Viator, and great-grandson Erik Joseph Pedersen. She is survived by her daughter Suzette Boone, son Ted Viator Sr. J.D. (Delores), son Glenn Viator Sr. (Valda), daughter Carolyn Boone (Kenneth), son Gary Viator, son Troy Viator, 12 grand-children and 25 great grand-children.
Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 18, from 5 PM until 8 PM with a rosary being recited at 6 PM. Visitation will resume Thursday, July 19 at 9:00 AM at Johnson Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Lake Charles, LA with the Reverend Matthew Cormierpresiding. Burial will immediately follow at Prien Memorial Park Cemetery.
