Eunice M. Verret, 94, of Lake Charles passed away Friday, June 01, 2012 in the comfort of her daughter's home.
Mrs. Verret was born in Houma, LA, raised in Terrebonne Parish and has lived sixty years in Lake Charles. She worked as a Custodian for Calcasieu Parish School Board. She also worked in public service; ironing, doing laundry and cleaning ducks. She enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts, flower and vegetable gardening and dancing.
She will be most remembered for her strong pot of coffee, homemade bread and the countless tea cakes and cookies she made with her children and grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church, devote Christian and a prayer warrior.
Mrs. Verret was the mother of fourteen children. She leaves to cherish her memory, six sons, Milton Verret and wife Hobby, Davis Verrett and wife Ellen, LeRoy Verret and wife Glenda, Hilton Verrett, Morris Verret and wife Linda and Willard Verret and wife Linda; five daughters, Dorothy Higginbotham, Nita Diamond, Mabel Soileau and husband Ralline, Delores Kershaw and husband Larry and Debbie Verret, all of the Lake Charles area; forty-five grandchildren, Mary, Mona, Donna, Selina, Davis, Glenn, Arvin, Son, Robert, John, Tracie, Kevin, Badeia, Cindy, David, Michael, Bryan, Jimbo, Warren, Marie, Liz, Lilly, Helen, Sharon, John, Missy, Michael, Mitch, Melanie, Dennis, Karen, Mark, Kim, Raymond, Rita, Michelle, Crystal, Chris, Glenn, Keith, Allen, Crystal, Teresa, Willie and Charlie; eighty-six great-grandchildren; ninety-six great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Francis Suire of Abbeville and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Noles Oville Verret; three children, Eva Verret, Wilton Paul Verret and Mary Ann Verret; five grandchildren, Wilson Verret, Clifford Diamond, Brent Soileau, Johnny Verret and Cecil Kershaw; two brothers and four sisters.
The family of Mrs. Verret wishes to express sincere gratitude to the Doctor's and staff, especially Melanie, Stacy and Chaplain Marvin Durgin of Southern Care Hospice for their excellence in care and compassion.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Monday, June 4, 2012 in St. Margaret Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Father Alan Trouille will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Sunday will be from 12:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a tribute beginning at 5:30 PM and a rosary to follow. Visitation Monday will be from 8:00 AM until 12:30 PM in the funeral home.
