Eva Maria Gabilondo

Eva Maria Gabilondo, 89, of Lake Charles, died at 12:50 pm on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at her residence, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Gabilondo was born in Turieno, Spain on July 5, 1928. She grew up with her large family that included eight siblings in Varadero, Cuba. After completing college, she became a teacher, a job that she loved. She met the love of her life, Jose and started a family and in 1972 they moved to Madrid, Spain.

In 1976, Mrs. Gabilondo moved with her family to Lake Charles, La and began working at Grex Inc. as a bookkeeping assistant to her husband. Eva and Jose worked side by side at Grex Inc. for 25 years.

She loved music and flowers but her biggest love was her family. She loved keeping in touch with her beloved siblings who were her connection to her life in Cuba. She dedicated her life to her four grandchildren, whom she adored.   Mrs. Gabilondo had a great appreciation for the simplest things in life and personified love and faith. She will be greatly missed.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children and their spouses, Jose Gabilondo (Patty) and Eva and Scott Riviere of Lake Charles; four grandchildren, Dean, Lucia, Juliet and Stuart Riviere; her siblings, Victor Lamadrid (Guadalupe), Eduardo Lamadrid (Marsha), Evangeline Villar (Tony), Elisa Dellanos, Ernesto Lamadrid (Hortensia) and Elena Lamadrid.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jose Antonio Gabilondo, her parents Petra and Eufracio Lamadrid and two siblings, Enrique Lamadrid and Emma Lamadrid Vitar.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday, April 9th at 10 am at Immaculate Conception Cathedral Church. Monsignor Jace Eskind will officiate. A burial at Consolata Cemetery will follow the mass. Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home. A special thanks to the angels of Brighton Bridge Hospice and Dr. Gerry Hebert for their loving care.
