Evelyn Thibodeaux LeBlanc, known to her family as GG, gained her wings on December 29, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was 94 years young and lived a remarkably healthy life, having never had much more than a common cold, until her battle with dementia began in 2020.
She was born on November 28, 1929, to Ida and Luke Thibodeaux. She grew up in Mermentau Cove, a small rural community southeast of Jennings, Louisiana, and was the only girl out of 7 children.
In 1946, she married her sweetheart, Hobby John LeBlanc. They had two daughters and moved to Sulphur in 1951. She was the office manager for Dr. Charles Smith for 36 ½ years and was a wonderful cook and seamstress. In 1989, she lost her beloved Hobby to ALS, and retired soon after to enjoy her hobbies of quilting, playing cards and traveling with friends and family. She enjoyed her weekly coloring classes at the Calcasieu Parish Library, was a faithful walker at SPAR and a member of CCOA. She also spent countless hours assisting her Cajun French speaking friends with their Medicare paperwork. The canasta table will never be the same without her constant reminder to the kids to “stop yapping and play cards”. In her last few years, as her memory faded, she always lit up at the presence of her family and was over the moon when she became the matriarch of five generations.
She is survived by her daughter Dianne Hewitt (Bobby), grandchildren Christina Smith, Damon Hoffpauir (Aimee), and Darla Wilkerson; great grandchildren Marilyn Cooley (Caleb), Hayden Blount, Alex Hoffpauir, Darbee Hoffpauir and Ryan Mullins; great-great grandchildren Caroline Cooley and Evelyn “Evie” Cooley; son-in-law Terry Wilkerson, sister-in-law; Lorraine LeBlanc, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. She was also blessed with an extended family of caregivers this past year, including the staff of Heart of Hospice and her amazing team of sitters Dianna Royer, Patsy McFarlain, Theresa Guidry, Pat Miller, and the fabulous Ms. Jewel Trapp.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, daughter Lena Lois Wilkerson, grandson Alexander Paul Hoffpauir and brothers Lernie, William, Ivy, Dallas, Willie, and Louis Thibodeaux.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 am at Johnson & Robison Funeral Home in Sulphur, followed by a remembrance service at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 6, 2024. Burial will follow at Istre Cemetery in Morse, Louisiana. Because it is a celebration of life, the family asks that attendees wear Red, Evelyn’s favorite color.
