Mrs. Evelyn Mae Thompson Williams 95 departed this life on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 7:45AM at her residence. She moved to Lake Charles in 2005 and resided in Lake Charles for the past 8 years. Evelyn was a lifelong resident of New Orleans prior to moving to Lake Charles. She was educated in Orleans Parish Schools; Phyllis Wheatley Elementary, McDonogh#35 Senior High School and Xavier University. She retired from St. Thomas Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Benjamin Maxon Jr. in August of 2005 where she was church clerk administrator for 54 plus years. At St. Thomas MBC she was a choir member, Gladys Spain Guild member, Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, Baptist Training Union teacher, Mission Department teacher, Christian Institute teacher , member of the Finance Committee, and Pastor Anniversary Committee. She is survived by two daughters, Pauline Williams Hurst and Cynthia L. Williams Jones of Lake Charles, La.; grandchildren, Ledgue Patrice (Larry) Williams of New Orleans, La. and Rhonda Annette Jones (Terrone) Bell of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; great grandchildren, Taylor Zhane Williams of New Orleans, La., Terrone Alfred Bell, Tyler Anthony Bell, and Tyrese Aerian Bell.; nephews, Leroy Thompson and Frank Thompson of New Orleans, La.; nieces, Joyce Marie Marshall and Clevette Marshall of New Orleans, La. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Gladys Thompson Smoot; husband, Willie Joseph Williams; sister, Edna Thompson and nephew, Charles Thompson. Her funeral will be at Noon Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Greater St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Samuel C. Tolbert Jr. M Div. and Rev. Willie E. Moore of St. Thomas Baptist Church of New Orleans will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday, March 22, 2014 10:00AM-11:50AM at the church.
