Evelyn Todd Sherman

Evelyn Todd Sherman, 102, of Baton Rouge passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2021 in a Baton Rouge care facility.

Mrs. Sherman was born on October 23, 1919 in Lafayette, LA.  She was raised in Lafayette until moving to Lake Charles.  Ten years ago, she moved to Baton Rouge to be near her daughter.  Mrs. Sherman received her degree in teaching at McNeese State University.  She then taught second and third grade for 25 years in Calcasieu Parish.  She was a past member of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Lake Charles and was a current member of St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church in Greenwell Springs, LA. 

She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and was an avid reader.  Mrs. Sherman was also a talented painter.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Virginia Loeffler (John) of San Marcos, CA, Carol Hansen (Merl) of Missouri City, TX, and Diane Sylvester (Charles) of Baton Rouge, and Roger Sherman, Sr. (Martha) of Beaumont, TX; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; and several great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Sherman; her parents, Michael and William Todd; sisters, Velma Todd Desormeaux, Lucy Todd Leger, Marie Louise Todd, and Juanita Todd Odenall; and a brother, Clifton Martin Todd.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 20, 2021 at Our Lady of Good Counsel.  The Rev. Paul Jessen will officiate.  Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
