Florence Dorothy Breaux Dalovisio died peacefully on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at her beloved home of over six decades after a progressive decline in her health following a fractured hip. She was surrounded by her children. Born in Lake Charles on January 29, 1921, the youngest of 3 daughters, she was preceded in death by her parents Daisy and Ledion Breaux and her sisters Hilda Kaough and Elia Broussard. After graduating from Lake Charles High School, she worked for Gulf States Utilities. She married Pete Raymond Dalovisio in 1947 and they had four children: Dr. Joseph R. Dalovisio (Wendy) of New Orleans, Sharon Dalovisio Nichols (Hooper), Andree Dalovisio Chol (Mike) of Baton Rouge and Renee Dalovisio of Oakland, CA. She has been a life- long parishioner of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. While managing an active household and family real estate investments, Flo also contributed to the family's business, Dalovisio's Restaurant, keeping the books and baking her famous cherry cheese cakes. She was the consummate "mom," working tirelessly at all endeavors related to her children's activities such as PTA, Cub Scouts and Camp Fire Girls. Her kindness, charm and perpetual smile attracted legions of devoted friends and neighbors over the years who kept in touch with her, even though many have moved from Lake Charles to all parts of the world. In addition to her children, she is survived by her grandchildren Jill Fitzpatrick, Emily Grossi, Dr. Andrew Dalovisio, Elia Nichols Capecchi, Ella Digby, David Chol and Peter Chol and by four great grandchildren. Her extended family includes Debbie & Taylor Belaire, her faithful cat Dolly and her devoted friend & helper, Albert Deville. Her family would like to thank those who took such wonderful care of their mother: Dr. Brian Clements and his nurse Enola, Sister Jeanette Touchet, Father Charles McMillin, niece Eleanor Lyons, godson Jeff Lyons, Rita Fontenot, Doris Hundley, Nechelle Richard, Linda Abney, Andrea Lewis, Susan Meunsterman, Mary Harmon, Hailey Semien, Myra Thomas, Annie Lazard, Carolyn Spikes and Synergy Home Health. Her funeral service will be at 10 am Monday, October 14 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Father Charles McMillin will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-8pm Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home with a remembrance and rosary led by Sister Jeanette at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Florence's name to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception or a charity of your choice.
