Florence Lee Devall

Florence Lee Fontenot DeVall, 87, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 1:47 AM on Thursday, April 28, 2016 in her residence.

Mrs. DeVall was born October 12, 1928 in the Mamou area, where she was raised.  She moved to Big Lake in 1945, where she lived until moving to Lake Charles in 2008.  She was a lifetime member of Big Lake Gospel Tabernacle and a member of the Eastern Star Lodge #165.  She enjoyed cooking and sewing and would make many of her children’s clothing when they were young.  Her true passion in life was for her husband, her children, and her grandchildren.

Mrs. DeVall is survived by her children, Gregory DeVall, Sr. and wife Pam of Lake Charles, Gwendolyn Kirby and husband Stan of Big Lake, LA, Wanda Flo DeVall of Lake Charles; brothers, John Fontenot and wife Carrie of Texas and Clifford Fontenot, Sr. and wife Jean of Creole, LA; seven grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Gordon DeVall, Sr.; son, Ernest G. “Ernie” DeVall, Jr.; infant son, Kenneth Kelly DeVall; parents, Dorick Fontenot and Bessie Johnson; and four brothers.

Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Johnson Funeral Home.  Reverends Garry Mann and Stan Kirby will officiate.  Burial will follow in Pujol Cemetery in Big Lake.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the start of the service.
