Floyd Ray Sonnier, 90, of Lake Charles passed away Friday, November 28, 2014 in local hospital. Mr. Sonnier was a native of Kinder, a Valedictorian graduate of Kinder High School where he was awarded a scholarship to SLI Vincent Business College. He served the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Sonnier worked as an Accountant of the Western Louisiana Zone for Borden Dairy for nearly twenty-five years. He retired Vice President and Contoller Accountant after nearly twenty years of service with Davidson Sash and Door. His favorite pastime was reading, and he enjoyed exploring gardening and horticulture in his yard. In his later years, he started the day meeting his coffee buddies, retired veterans, at the mall to share stories of their service, their lives, and sometimes, their wives. Mr. Sonnier was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church where he served as an Usher and Eucharistic Minister to those who were not able to attend Mass. He was also a member of the Young Men's Business Club, Kiwanis Club and the American Legion Post #1 and VFW Post #2130. Mr. Sonnier will be remembered for his kind, giving heart. He donated countless hours of time and service to Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center during tax season and helped teach those in need to read at the Literacy Counsel. He was a devoted husband and father, leaving to honor his memory, his loving wife of sixty two years, Lucille Doré Sonnier of Lake Charles; one daughter, Janet Marie Piper and husband Michael of Lake Charles; two grandchildren, Michelle LeBlanc and husband Jeremy and Christopher Raylee Piper; two great-grandchildren, Emma Lyn LeBlanc and Mallory Claire LeBlanc, all of Lake Charles and two step-grandchildren, Michael N. Piper II of Moss Bluff and Anthony J. Piper of Terre Haute, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters and three brothers. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, December 01, 2014 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Father Bill Miller will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Sunday will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation Monday will be from 8:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home. Mr. Sonniers' family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Rodney Acuna, Dr. Christopher Thompson and the nurses and staff of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital for the kindness and care given to their Dad.
