Floyd Reynold Gibbs, 93, died Friday, November 11, 2011, in a local hospital.
Born in Hayes, Louisiana on December 9, 1917 to Kinney Edward and Libbie Hayes Gibbs, Mr. Gibbs was a graduate of Bell City High School and Chenier Business College of Beaumont, Texas. During his youth, he was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and attained his goal of becoming an Eagle Scout and Life Scout. He moved to Lake Charles in 1949 and was a faithful member of University United Methodist Church. He was also a Mason, a Shriner and a former member of the BonTon Club. He worked at Cities Service Oil Corporation, retiring after 31 years of service as a shift supervisor at the Cit-Con Lube plant. Mr. Gibbs served many years as president of Cit-Con Oil Corporation Group OCAW Local 4500.
He loved duck hunting and gardening. He raised a bountiful garden each year, and delighted in sharing his bounties with his neighbors and friends. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His greatest joy was his family.
Mr. Gibbs is survived by his beloved wife of 73 years, Blanche Potter Gibbs; his daughter, Wanda Joy Arbaugh and husband Richard of Houston, Texas; son-in-law, Gary Chamblee of The Woodlands, Texas; sister Marjorie "Sweetie" Jackson of Lake Charles; five grandchildren, Mark Chamblee and wife Tracy of The Woodlands, Texas, Brooke Gilcrease and husband Brad, Brett Arbaugh and wife Kristie, and John Arbaugh, all of Houston, and David Arbaugh of San Diego, California; and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Linda Diane Chamblee.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 14, 2011 at Johnson Funeral Home. Rev. Charles Langford will officiate, assisted by Rev. Ernest Walker. Interment will be at Hayes Cemetery in Hayes, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
