Floyd Vincent Fontenot, 85, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 5:05 AM on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 in a local care facility.
Mr. Fontenot was born October 17, 1932 in Ville Platte, LA, and graduated from Chataignier High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Fontenot retired as shift superintendant in 1992 from PPG, where he worked for over thirty-five years. He spoke fluent French and would travel to Canada to assist with plant start ups. He was a dedicated employee and was proud of the fact that he did not miss a day of work in over thirteen years. Mr. Fontenot was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horse racing, and listening to French music. He was a wonderful cook. His true passion was for his grandchildren and he loved to attend all their sporting events.
Mr. Fontenot is survived by his children, Denise Robinson and husband Eddy, Debbie Martel and husband Kenny, all of Lake Charles, Darrel Fontenot and wife Diana of Lacassine, LA, Dennis Fontenot and wife Kim of Lake Charles; Ann Ihli and husband Sam of Moss Bluff, and Dina Pierson and husband Sean of Lake Charles; sisters, Nell Ardoin of Lawton, OK and Mary “Pinky” LaFleur and husband Dowell of Vidrine, LA; grandchildren, Cheree Chapman, Lee Lanier, Craig Martel, Chris Martel, Sara Arnold, Darrel G. Fontenot, Todd Fontenot, Kate Richard, Amanda Ihli, Eric Ihli, Jakob Ihli, Cade Pierson, and Alex Pierson; sixteen great-grandchildren; and very close cousins that he considered his brothers, Kenneth Darbonne and Steve Darbonne.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Sittig Fontenot; and parents, Ike and Lydia McGee Fontenot.
His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 6, 2018 at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Monsignor Jace Eskind will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Thursday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a tribute service at 6:45 PM and Cursillo Rosary at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Friday at the funeral home from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM.
