Floyd Wayne Cole, age 78, passed away Sunday, August 22, 2010, at his residence in Moss Bluff.
He was born September 7, 1931, in Baytown, TX. Serving as a veteran of the United State Marine Corps, Wayne lived most of his life in Lake Charles. He was a graduate of Marion High School, the Armed Forces Institute, LaSalle University, and the University of The State of New York-Alabany. Wayne owned and operated a nationwide tax consulting service for 48 years. An athlete in his early years, he participated in various sports and was undefeated in a brief professional boxing career at the age of eighteen. In his early years, he wrote numerous county songs and in later years, he wrote gospel songs and religious articles. Wayne founded and directed "Look Up and Live", a religious tract ministry, in which he distributed numerous Christian tracts and articles, many of which he authored. Being of the Pentecostal faith, he was totally devoted to his family and was preceded in death by a son, Randy Cole and a grandson, Gary Cole.
Survivors include a son, Terry Cole and companion, Patty Moore of Moss Bluff; two granddaughters, Melissa "Missy" Cole Assunto and husband, Victor of Lake Charles and Carley Cole of Moss Bluff; three great-grandchildren, Dylan Cooper, Katelyn Bertrand, and Devin Newman all of Lake Charles; and a brother, Kenneth Cole, a sister, Darlene Hunt, and a step-mother, Mabel Cole all of Baytown, TX.
His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles on Tuesday, August 24, 2010. Rev. John Harrell will officiate. Burial will follow in Creel Cemetery in Bel, LA. Visitation will begin on Monday, August 23, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday, from 8 a.m. until time of service.
