Foster Clinton Kordisch Jr, MD

Foster Clinton Kordisch, Jr., M.D., 76, of Lake Charles, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at home, surrounded by his wife and family after a yearlong battle with complications following surgery.

Born on October 23, 1947, in Hayes, Kansas. At a young age, Foster's family relocated to Lake Charles, La where they settled. Foster was a proud graduate of Lake Charles High School and also a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. 

A man of deep intellect and a love for children, Dr. Kordisch pursued his passion for medicine at McNeese State University before earning early admission to LSU School of Medicine. It was there, at LSU, that his dream to care for children took flight. After completing his residency at the LSU School of Pediatrics at Charity Hospital, he returned to Southwest Louisiana with a mission: to serve families with unwavering dedication and expertise.  

In 1975, Dr. Kordisch opened his solo pediatric practice, where for several years he became a sought after compassionate pediatrician. In 1980, his practice merged with the Children’s Clinic to become what is now known as the Children’s Clinic of Southwest Louisiana, where he continued his remarkable work for over five decades, forever leaving his mark on the lives of generations. He also served as Director of Moss Regional Charity Hospital.  

But let’s get real—Foster’s passions weren’t limited to stethoscopes and hospitals. While quiet to most, at home, he was a big kid and jokester who lived for a good laugh and loved to keep things interesting. He had an early obsession with growing vegetables, dreaming of one day becoming a farmer. While that dream settled into a more manageable backyard tomato farm, it did lead to some of the best BLT sandwiches ever made and a few run ins with pesky ducks. He loved telling stories, especially ones that reminded his kids to be on their best behavior. Somewhere along the way, he wrote a novel, tucked it away, and now the family looks forward to digging it out and having a good read.  

A master of mischief, Foster knew how to make life fun—booby-trapping doors on the 4th of July, flooding the yard to make an ice rink for the neighborhood kids during a freeze, and leading impromptu Disney song singalongs while playing the piano on the car dashboard. He lived for quests, like tracking down every Morrison’s Café for their legendary blue cheese dressing, all the best theme parks, and could turn even the simplest moments—whether gardening, fishing, or just watching a movie—into memories his family will treasure forever.  

Foster was also a chef in the kitchen, an animal lover, and a card shark who never met a game of Yahtzee or poker he couldn’t cheat at—openly, mind you, though we suspect he could count cards and take Vegas by storm if given the chance.  

At his core, Dr. Kordisch was a family man. His greatest joy and proudest legacy will always be the love he shared with those closest to him. His wife, his children, and his grandchildren were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent in their presence. 

Foster is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Burch Kordisch; his children, Foster Clinton “Clint” Kordisch, III, M.D.. (Margaret), Kristin Kordisch Sanders (Jason), Robert Neil Kordisch, and Allie Kordisch Tucker (Lance); his siblings, Sherry Kordisch Bourgeois(George), Terry Kordisch Hebert(Doug), Stanley “Stan” Kordisch, M.D. (Betsy), and Steve Kordisch; and his much-loved grandchildren, May and Tripp Kordisch, Austin, Abby, Brady, and Kaylee Sanders, and Janson, Ashton, Sophia, and Millie Tucker. Sister-in-laws. Mary (Burch) Goodwin, M.D., Nancy (Burch) Hollingsworth, brother-in laws Richard C Burch and Bill Burch, M.D.. And numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Ozie Davis who cared for "Pops" the last six months of his life.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Kordisch Hebert and Foster Clinton Kordisch, Sr. 

Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with a rosary at 6:00 PM, at Johnson's Funeral Home, and will resume on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until leaving for the church at 10:30 AM. A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, with Monsignor Daniel Torres officiating. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
