Frances Brocato Silas

December 20, 1921 — October 27, 2010

Frances Caroline Gilley Brocato Silas, 88, of Lake Charles passed away, Wednesday, October 27, 2010 in the comfort of her daughter's home.

Mrs. Silas has lived most of her life in Lake Charles. During her younger years she lived in many places as she followed her husband's military career. She enjoyed participating in pageant judging, planning, preparation and proudly followed her granddaughter's as they competed through out the state. She took great pride in following her children and grandchildren anywhere; pageant days, dancing, boxing, baseball and football games; they all added an extra little sparkle to her eye. She was also a diehard, #1 LSU sports fan.

Mrs. Silas' heart was consumed with an overwhelming love for her family, friends and their families and friends. She was a kind, tender, loving woman whose greatest times were spent with her family. She was a wonderful cook, with recipes that will never be duplicated and a specific dish and special something for many. She especially enjoyed family gatherings, Sunday dinners and holidays.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband of fifty four years, Charles Henry Silas of Lake Charles; two sons, Frank James Brocato, Sr. and wife Dianne and Jerry Joseph Brocato, Sr., all of Moss Bluff; one daughter, Carolyn Dunman Harris and husband Jay of Lake Charles; eleven grandchildren, Frank "J" Brocato, Jr. and wife Jennifer, Michelle Dunman Humphreys and husband Troy, Kallyn Benoit and husband Kerry, Craig Dunman and wife Becky, Jerry "Rocko" Brocato, Jr. and wife Margaret, Joanna Brocato Hagan and husband Toby, Steven John Brocato and wife Elise, Brande' Reiter and husband Chris, Cottie Mouton and husband Ryan, Bonnie Ramsey and husband Jason and Bret Brocato; twenty- five great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy "Bootsie" Reeves of Westlake and Bertha "Bert" Romero of Moss Bluff; two brother- in- laws, Rodney and Edward Silas and four sister- in- laws, Martha Capps, Shirley Honeycutt, Margaret Cadle and Linda Duncan, all of Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Idella Lovett Gilley; two brothers, Alton and Sammy Gilley and one sister, Louise Felice.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, October 31, 2010 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Gary Evers will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Saturday will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue Sunday from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM in the funeral home.

Pallbearers for her service will her grandsons and grandson- in- laws.

Mrs. Silas family wishes to express sincere thanks to the Doctor's and staff of Southern Home Health, Heart of Hospice and Ms. Lorena Randle for their excellence in care and compassion.
