Frances Louise Brown

May 5, 1919 — February 9, 2015

Frances Louise Lucas Brown, 95, of Lake Charles, LA left this life to dwell forever with Jesus at 12:20 PM on Monday, February 9, 2015. Mrs. Brown was born May 5, 1919 in Palestine, TX and was raised in Shreveport, LA, where she graduated from Fairpark High School. In 1937 she married her high school sweetheart, Finis Brown. They moved to Brownsville, TX in 1949 and then to Lake Charles in 1953. She has made Lake Charles her home for the past sixty-two years. Frances was always loving in nature and will be remembered for her wonderful attitude and disposition. She liked to stay busy and was always ready to pack a bag and take a trip. She loved to sew and was a wonderful seamstress. Frances shared many happy evenings with friends playing cards or Mexican Train. And she was always happy to help her family and friends with whatever they needed done. She was so proud of her daughters and sons-in-law as well as her grandsons, and their families. Mrs. Brown worked as a secretary at various doctor's offices throughout the years. But she's best known for the many ways she worked for the Lord at Trinity Baptist Church where she was a member for over sixty years. From teaching children's Sunday school to organizing activities, Frances was at the church almost every time the doors were open. In her early 60's, she attended classes at McNeese on physical fitness so she could teach senior citizen exercises classes at the church, which she continued to do until she was 92. She helped found the Just Older Youth (JOY) program at Trinity and organized trips and activities for over 30 years. Frances Brown was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was loved dearly and will be greatly missed. Mrs. Brown is survived by her daughters, Marsha Brown Spear of Lake Charles and Rebecca Brown Roberts and husband Dick Roberts, Jr. of the Woodlands, TX; sisters, Lois Hudson and husband Barrett of Shreveport, LA and Nelda Neumann and husband Eugene of Huffman, TX; grandchildren, Lewis Spear, III and wife Rebecca of Georgetown, TX, Trey Roberts and wife Kristin of Houston, TX, and Drew Roberts and wife Juliana of Georgetown, TX; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Finis Brown and son-in-law, Lewis Spear, Jr. Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Trinity Baptist Church. Reverend Steve James will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Thursday at the church from 9:00 AM until the start of the service. The family would like to express a special word of thanks to Wilda Robinson and Caroline Frelow for the wonderful care given to their mother.
