Francis Winston Derby

Francis Winston Derby, 89, died Monday, December 3, 2012 in a Jennings hospital.


Born in Gillette, Arkansas to Francis Williams and Lottie Ayers Derby, Mr. Derby attended Landry High School in Lake Charles. He served his country in the U. S. Navy CB's during World War II, stationed in Trinidad. He worked for over thirty years for Olin Chemicals as a plant operator. Mr. Derby enjoyed traveling and boating. He was of the Baptist faith.


Mr. Derby is survived by three sons, John W. Derby and wife Sandy of Lake Charles, Richard Gene Derby and wife Vicky of Newport, Oregon and Alvin Lynn Derby of Vidor, Texas; a stepson, Wayne Summerhill and wife Cheryl of Searcy, Arkansas; a stepdaughter, Debbie Galloway and husband Ronnie of Stuttgart, Arkansas; one brother, Richard Derby of Merryville, Louisiana; and many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Johnson Funeral Home. Rev. Ronnie Estes will officiate. Interment will be at Old Ritchie Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until service time.


The family would like to express their appreciation for the compassionate care given their dad to the doctors and staff of Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home.
