Francois Schexnayder

April 21, 1920 — January 6, 2012

Mr. Francois Schexnayder, 91, passed away Friday, January 6, 2012 surrounded by his family. He was born in Lafayette and was a resident of Iowa.

Mr. Schexnayder retired from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Department after 30 years of service and was a WWII Army veteran. He was a member of Glad Tidings Church where he was a door greeter. In his early years, Francois was an Iowa volunteer firefighter and a member of the Lions Club. He owned and operated a fruit stand for many years. Mr. Schexnayder also enjoyed fishing, shrimping, and hunting.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Geraldine Cormier Schexnayder; eight sons, Wilson Francis Schexnayder (Helen) of LeBleu Settlement, Clifford Schexnayder (Virginia) of Indian Creek, Herman Schexnayder (Maxine) of Iowa, Michael Schexnayder of Sunset, Brian "Shakey" Schexnayder (Charlotte) of Iowa, Daniel Schexnayder (Lynn) of Moss Bluff, Melvin Schexnayder (Darla) of Carlyss, Dwayne Schexnayder (Johnna) of Mount Belvieu, TX; two daughters, Bernella Broussard (Gerald) of Church Point and Rose Laughlin of Sulphur; 22 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his son, Bobby Schexnayder; grandson, Keith Schexnayder; parents, Zulma and Ulyssee Schexnayder; two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral service will be held Monday, January 9, 2012 at 1PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Rev. Gary Evers will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin Sunday from 1PM-9PM and will continue Monday at 8AM until time of service.
