Frank Gilman

Frank Gilman, 93, of Lake Charles died at 10:11 PM Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family and friends.


Mr. Gilman was born in Glenmora, La. He lived in Lake Charles most of his life. Mr. Gilman was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in the Asian Theatre where he was awarded but declined two purple hearts.


Upon his discharge from the Army in 1945 he returned to Lake Charles and became manager of George Theriot's Food Store on Ryan St. He retired from George Theriot's in 1990 after forty-five years of service.


Mr. Gilman was a charter member of South City Optimist Club and a member of VFW Post #2130, W. B Williamson Post #1 of the American Legion, and the Woodman of the World.


His parents, John Thomas Gilman and Ida Beaumont Gilman, a brother John Gilman, and sisters, Mary Gilman, Alice Hogan, Gussie Miller, Ida Paul, and Julia Gilman, preceded him in death.


He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Marvadine Jett Gilman; one daughter, Debbie Watson and her husband Frank of Kenner; a son Douglas Gilman and his wife Barbara of Lake Charles; grandsons, Ryan Watson and his wife Rebecca of New Orleans and Tyler Watson and his wife Julie of Baton Rouge; great granddaughters Amelia and Avery Watson both of Baton Rouge. He is also survived by a devoted friend, Glenda Moss of Lake Charles.


Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM Friday, June 8, 2012 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Drew Fontenot will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM Thursday and on Friday from 10:00 AM until time of services.


Pallbearers will be Frank Watson, Ryan Watson, Tyler Watson, Greg Gilman, John Herr, and Cornell White.
