Frank Joseph Micelle, 89, died Tuesday, March 2, 2021, in a local hospital following a lengthy illness.
A lifelong resident of Lake Charles, Mr. Micelle was the son of John and Angelina Truglio Micelle. He was a 1949 graduate of Landry High School, attended McNeese State University, and received his degree in Business Administration from St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas. Mr. Micelle served his country in the U. S. Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He operated Micelle Meat Packing Plant and Micelle Commission Yard, family-owned businesses, for more than fifty years, until they closed in 1986. He enjoyed all things with horses, cattle, and rodeos, especially calf-roping. He also enjoyed in his leisure time fishing, traveling, dancing, baking traditional fig cookies, and gardening.
Mr. Micelle had a compassionate and loving heart, especially where his family was concerned. His nieces and nephews were the children Mr. Micelle never had himself. He was especially close to his nephew, Mark Reeves, whom he cared for from childhood to adulthood. In the last years of Mr. Micelle’s illness, Mark returned that love and care to his Uncle Frank as Mark cared for him in the last years of his life. Mr. Micelle attended the Immaculate Conception Cathedral.
Those left to cherish his memory are his brother, Jerry Micelle; his sister, Mary Jane Smith and husband Jack; sister-in-law, Sherry Micelle, all of Lake Charles; and many beloved and loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Rose Anna Louviere; and brothers, Victor R. Micelle, John Paul Micelle, and Morris Micelle.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Father Paul Jussen will officiate. Interment will be at Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at University Baptist Church on Monday from 5 until 8 p.m., with a Cursillo rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m., and will resume at University Baptist on Tuesday at 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimers Association in memory of Mr. Micelle.
The family would like to express their grateful appreciation to Tim Montgomery for the compassionate care he gave to their brother during his illness. They are also forever grateful to nieces and nephews Susan, Gayla, Deena, Cooper, Raymond, and Jason for the love, time and devoted attention showered over their Uncle Frank through the years of his illness.
