Fred Lebleu, Jr.

March 14, 1946 — May 17, 2024

“They just don’t make them like that anymore.” We hear it a lot these days, because, well, they don’t. And such fits the man, husband, father, grandfather, and friend found in Fred LeBleu, Jr., who, born on March 14, 1946, entered his heavenly home on May 17, 2024.

Fred served in the U. S. Air Force and Vietnam, and following the war, began a 40-year career working for the Railroad. He married Ethel “Ellie” LeBleu in 1968, and their family grew to include two daughters, a son, 10 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was a devoted LSU fan and relished coaching his kids and grandkids in sports, rarely missing a game. In his starched blue jeans, freshly pressed shirts, and shined-up boots, you may have heard him yell, “That’s terrible!” to an umpire or referee. And we assure you, if he said it, it was indeed a bad call.

We believe Dad loved sports the way he did, because they teach us so much about life: work ethic, discipline, humility, accomplishment. He lived these out and coached them into us. Friends from our childhood recall he never failed to have a smile, along with an, “Atta’ Girl,” or, “Nice job!” for them after games. Yes, behind those boots, jeans, and occasional shouts from the stands, was a tenderness – a generousness – an undeniable goodness. We’ll miss it all.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Fred LeBleu and Della White Karsch LeBleu; stepmother, Tessie LeBleu; sisters, Catherine “Gwen” LeBleu Peloquin, Maida Broussard, Annie Vidrine, Flora Bel Ferrante, Aroma Boardman, Juanita Gimbel, and Evelyn Karsch; and brother, Elmer “Buddy” Karsch.

Those left to honor his legacy include: his wife, Ellie LeBleu; daughter, Leslie Guillotte, and husband, Bill; daughter, Christie LeBleu; son, Fred “Bubba” LeBleu III, and wife, Lindsay; and grandchildren, Dylan, Dawson, Andrew (Kourtney), Anna (Henry), Justin, Jordan, Elle Jolie’, Kirin, Shane, and Fred C. “Ford” LeBleu IV.

Visitation will be held at Johnson’s Funeral Home in Moss Bluff on Sunday, May 19, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and resume on Monday, May 20, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. A celebration of life will then follow at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Ritchie Cemetery, also in Moss Bluff.
