Galyn Seavey Montgomery, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2025, at the age of 79. A faithful Christian, Galyn was known for her unwavering love, boundless generosity, and exceptional ability to befriend everyone she met. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and a passion for life that touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Galyn was the loving wife of James Montgomery and the proud mother of two children, Charles Milliger (Delisa) and Aimee Hoffpauir (Damon). She also cherished her role as a grandmother to Alex Hoffpauir (Austynn), Darbee Hoffpauir, Jackson Milliger, Samuel Milliger, and Charlee Catherine Milliger. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she never missed an opportunity to express how proud she was of them.
In addition to her family, Galyn had a wide circle of friends who loved and cherished her. She was a collector, not only of treasured family heirlooms, fast automobiles, and diverse stamps on her passport but also of people. Galyn had the rare ability to make friends wherever she went and keep those friendships for a lifetime. Whether it was through her love for animals, her talent for crafting, or her unshakable mechanical skills, Galyn connected with people from all walks of life.
Galyn's hands were never idle. She was incredibly gifted in fixing anything-whether it was plumbing, electrical, auto repair, or building. She was also a skilled crafter, with a particular fondness for refinishing furniture and experimenting with new creative projects, including her latest endeavor of painting landscapes with oil on canvas. Her love for the outdoors also led her to success in the skeet shooting world, where she earned numerous awards and notoriety. And anyone who sat down to play cards with her, especially Booray, knew she played with both skill and a bit of playful competition.
In her professional life, Galyn worked in various retail businesses, including her most recent position at Diamond Durrell's, where she delighted in helping young couples find the perfect engagement ring. She cherished the friendships she formed with her coworkers and enjoyed making each customer feel special.
Galyn was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Lillian Seavey, grandparents, grandson Alexander Hoffpauir, and many cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by her husband, James Montgomery; her children, Charles (Delisa) and Aimee (Damon); her grandchildren, Alex (Austynn), Darbee, Jackson, Samuel, and Charlee; and a host of other family and friends who will miss her deeply.
The family extends special thanks to her cousin Becky Taylor and Glenn Boggan for their unwavering support during Galyn's medical journey, and to Cindy Canaday and Suzie Smart for their kindness in providing help with appointments, errands, and visits. The family is deeply grateful for the love and prayers extended by so many friends, which brought comfort during her final weeks knowing that her husband was being well taken care of during his battle with Alzheimers as she was battling with her own health.
In her final days, Galyn's family also wishes to thank Dr. Muhammad Kahn, Dr. Christian LeBlanc, Dr. Gary Kohler, and the nurses at the Memorial chemo bay for their compassionate care and support.
A celebration of Galyn's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 1, 2025 in the Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles Chapel. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the start of the service at 1:00 PM. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to Tunnels to Towers to support the brave men and women of our armed forces and first responders.
Galyn will be remembered as a woman whose love knew no bounds, whose hands could build and fix anything, and whose heart was open to everyone. Her memory will live on in the many lives she touched.
