Garnet Hunter Bolen, 83, of Lake Charles, LA died at 3:43 AM on Sunday, April 13, 2014 in his residence. Mr. Bolen was born February 26, 1931 in Abilene, KS, where he was a graduate of Abilene High School. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. During his four year term with the Air Force, he was stationed in Rapid City, SD, where he met the love of his life. They moved to Lake Charles, LA in 1953 and have called it home ever since. He was a fifty-five year member of IUOE Local #406 and worked for Flenniken Construction, Grace and Turner Industries and for Industrial Construction for twenty-five years. Mr. Bolen enjoyed gardening and welding for his family and friends. He was loved by many and will be missed dearly. Mr. Bolen is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Frances Waters Bolen; daughters, Dalana Murrell and Julia Myers, both of Westlake, LA; sons, Michael Bolen of Moss Bluff, LA and Jeffrey Bolen and wife Kay of Westlake, LA; sisters-in-law, Mable Muhlbach of Casper, WY, Joyce Downey of Rialto, CA, Ruth King of Reno, NV, and Shirley Trout of Rapid City, SD; brothers-in-law, Everett Waters and wife Delores of Moreno Valley, CA and Jerry Waters and wife Bonnie of Allen, KS; grandchildren, Liz Johnson and husband Todd, and Nicholas and Charles Myers, all of Westlake, LA; and two great-grandchildren, Caden and Molly Johnson. The family will have a private memorial service at a later date. Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.
