Garret Scott Broussard

September 16, 1977 — August 8, 2023

Our beloved son, brother, nephew, uncle, and friend, Garret Scott Broussard, passed peacefully on August 8, 2023 at his home in Lake Charles, Louisiana. His life on earth was all too brief, but his loving spirit remains in the heart of those he shared it with.

Garret was born to Blane Broussard and Gale Lightfoot Burns on September 16, 1977. He attended Barbe High School and continued his education earning a certificate in massage therapy. He had various jobs, including a safety officer, but was mostly known for his good cooking, working as a chef for Italian Villa, Harlequin Steakhouse, Snake River Grill and Cousin’s Lebanese Cuisine Restaurant in Lake Charles.  Garret loved his family and friends, sharing food, fun and memorable times in his 45 years. He had hopes and plans for his future, but was called suddenly to his final home, to a peaceful place, with no more earthly concerns.

We find some comfort in knowing he is together forever with many he loved so dearly, including his fiancé, Amber Dawn Billings, his paternal grandparents, Russel and Lurlie Broussard, his maternal grandparents, Alice and Bill Lightfoot, and his uncles, Kirk and Todd Broussard.

Those left behind who will miss him terribly, include his parents; his sister, Amanda Broussard; his niece, Taylor Floener; his uncles, Mark Broussard (Gweneyette) and Kenneth Lightfoot (Jing); his aunts, Lisa Patrick (Fred), Tina Broussard Fontenot, Michelle Stone (Robert), Nancy Cline, and Lois Lightfoot. Sharing in our loss are Amber’s daughters, Mia and Juliet Jones, tons of great friends, family, and lastly, his beloved cat, Kitty.

Garret was a fierce and loyal friend to many who shared these memories. Garret loved to fish, ride trails, camp, float down the river, but most of all, liked to gather people together with food, drink, music and laughter. He was like a magnet for people from every walk of life to coalesce around. Garret did not apologize for being himself. He stood tall in a room full of giants no matter what the situation. He met you where you were and accepted people into his space however they walked or talked. Most of all, Garret loved, cared about, and cared for his family. He was his sister’s rock in all situations. He constantly called and checked in on everyone. He was the first grandchild and often reminded you of that. What an honor to have shared a space on this earth with Garret, to have known and loved him. That love will remain and is imprinted on our hearts forever.

A Celebration of Garret’s life will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home, located at 4321 Lake Street, Lake Charles, LA. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the start of the celebration at 3:00 PM.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Abraham’s Tent in Lake Charles, LA.

“The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.“ Bob Marley
