Garrett Smith

Garrett Wayne Smith, 27, of Sulphur passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 27, 2023 in Lake Charles.

Garrett was born on November 3, 1996 in Lake Charles and was raised in Sulphur where he was a graduate of Parkview Christian Academy. Upon graduation, he furthered his education at ABC Training Center to learn the skill of a millwright. Garrett then moved to Austin, TX where he was a sprinkler fitter for Impact Fire for more than a year. When he returned to the area, he began working as a crane rigger with Louisiana Crane. Garrett ultimately decided that his passion was truck driving, so he was hired by Lake City Trucking where he was currently working.

In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Garrett will be remembered as a guy who always chose to laugh over being serious or angry. He had a kind heart and would do anything to help others out. His most cherished moments were spent with his family.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife, Lola Smith of Sulphur; children, Hunter, Gracie, Grayson, and Hudson Smith all of Sulphur; parents, Tammy and Jessie Smith of Sulphur; siblings, Taylor Smith and Amanda Chronister both of Sulphur; and paternal grandmother, Rita Hays of Lake Charles.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, John and Patricia Taylor and paternal grandparents, RE “Jim” Hays and Kenneth Wayne Smith.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Beauregard Memorial Baptist Church in Longville. Pastor Walter Edwards will officiate. Cremation will follow the service under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin in the funeral home on Sunday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will resume in the church on Monday at 1:00 PM until the start of the service.
