Gary Brent Hood

Gary Hood passed peacefully of natural causes the morning of January 7, 2024.

He was born to Warren Hood and Theresa Hood on October 28,1950 in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Gary loved life and never met a stranger, he was an avid sportsman and loved watching sports, particularly when his grandsons, Carson and Cameron, were on the field. Gary also enjoyed woodworking, he especially loved making bluebird houses for family and friends and working in the garden with Debra, his beloved wife. Gary loved his fishing trips with his longtime best friend George Paret and duck hunting with his cousin, John Hood.
Gary was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and is now present with our Lord and Savior.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 32 years Debra Hood, daughter Carri Hood Smith and son-in-law Kevin Smith, his two grandsons Carson and Cameron Smith, who were the light of his life, his mother Theresa Hood, and sisters Carol Hood DeRouen (Randy DeRouen) and Jennifer Hood, brother Daryl Hood (Amy), and with numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. brother-in-law Charlie Ricks, sister-in-law Kim Ricks, mother and father-in-law Charles and Louise Ricks, and a multitude of friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his son Parker Hood, his brother Robert Hood, and his father Warren Hood.

While at Lake Charles High, Gary played football, basketball and track, and was a member of numerous clubs, and had recently become a member of the Lake Charles kayak club.

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Friday January 12, 2024 at Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles with a celebration of his life, led by Pastor Steve James, to begin at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Carson and Cameron Smith along with nephews, Austin Nolen, Chris Hood, Jonathan Hood, Jordan DeRouen, Jeff DeRouen and Jared DeRouen.
