Gary Wynne Sonnier

Gary Wynne Sonnier, 76, of Westlake passed away at 8:45 PM on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 in a local hospital.

Mr. Sonnier was born on April 2, 1947 and lived most of his life in Lake Charles before moving to Westlake 22 years ago.  He was a graduate of LaGrange High School.  Following graduation, he joined the US Army and was stationed in Germany.  Upon being honorably discharged, he continued his education at McNeese State University where he received a degree in business.  At the age of 29, he took over the family business, Sonnier Electric, and continued to run the business along with various other businesses until retiring. 

He enjoyed volunteering and being a part of Colors for a Cause and Brennan’s Blessings, charity organizations his wife co-founded to help assist kids with cancer and their families.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 22 years, Kay Sonnier of Westlake; children, Sam Sonnier of Asheville, NC, Christa Sonnier of Pensacola, FL, Joey Sonnier of Lake Charles, Jason Sonnier of Lake Charles, Brittany Meche Acheson of Lake Charles, and Scott Meche (Sarah) of Westlake; and grandchildren, Eve Parent, Olivia Acheson, Landry Meche, Cameron Meche, and Morgan Taylor.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Cathy Sonnier; parents, Rena and Sam Sonnier; siblings, Beverly Fouts and Sammie LaFosse.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 10, 2023 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel.  The Rev. Marcus Wade will officiate.  Visitation will begin on Monday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.  Cremation will follow the service.
