Gay Hill Crisler

Gay Hill Crisler, 78, of Willis, TX died at 7:11 AM on Thursday, August 25, 2016 in her home surrounded by her husband and three daughters.

 

Mrs. Crisler was born on February 2, 1938 in Lamar, MO.  In 1958 she moved from Carthage, MO to Lake Charles where she resided for nearly 30 years.  In 1986 she moved to Houston, TX before moving to Willis, TX in 2001.  She was a 1956 graduate of Carthage High School and received her BA in Education at McNeese State University in 1973.  She began her career with the Calcasieu Parish School Board in 1973 having taught elementary school at J.F. Kennedy, T.S. Cooley, and College Oaks.  Mrs. Crisler taught school in the Houston area from 1986 until retiring.

 

She was an extensive traveler having traveled the 50 states as well as overseas.  Mrs. Crisler enjoyed Alaskan, Carribbean and  European cruises as well as train and bus tours.  She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren supporting their sports competitions, school events, birthdays, and anything they were involved in.

 

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Herbert T. Crisler of Willis, TX; three daughters, Donna Hill  Hathway and husband Robert of Kendalia, TX, Ronda Hill Ross and husband Mark of Tomball, TX, and Deanne Hill Abshire and husband Michael of Lake Charles; father of her children, Don Hill of Lake Charles; stepchildren, Kim Crisler of Fort Worth, TX, Jon Crisler of Weatherford, TX, Jay Crisler and wife Christi of Helotes, TX, and Dru Black of Fort Worth, TX; two sisters, Joan Williamson and husband Earl of Independence, MO and Dixie Robinson and husband Ron of Cedar Creek, MO; grandchildren, Layne Beard, Bryant Cormier,  Daniel (DJ) Warwick, Lori Beard, Chris Ross, and Caleb and Nicholas Abshire; step grandchildren, Brittany Harrison, Matthew and Caitlin Crisler, and Mason Crisler; and great grandchildren, Emily Cormier,  Bailey and Leo Cash Beard, and Paitynn  Beard.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hollis Carl and Gertrude Frances Oldham Stockdale; a brother, Carl Stockdale; and three sisters, Sue Haddock, Mary Pasley, and Deane Barlow.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 29, 2016 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel.  The Rev. Dr. John Robert Black will officiate.  Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue on Monday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org or to the Salvation Army in Baton Rouge for the flood relief.
