Genevieve Pintado Chavanne

February 16, 1910 — January 9, 2015

Genevieve "Bea" Pintado Chavanne, 104, of Lake Charles passed away Friday, January 09, 2015 in the comfort of her home. Mrs. Chavanne was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles. She was a graduate of Lake Charles High School and Vincent Business College and went on to work thirty one years as a New Account Clerk for Gulf National Bank. Following her retirement Mrs. Chavanne volunteered as a Pink Lady for St. Patrick's Hospital. She loved people, staying busy and being active in the community and the Lioness Club. During her golden years, she remained as active as possible, being blessed with a life of health and independence. Her 100th birthday was on Mardi Gras day. She celebrated as the reigning CCOA Mardi Gras Queen and the honored Parade Marshall for the Red Hat's parade. Mrs. Chavanne was a devoted woman of faith, a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the VIC. She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Raymond Edwin Chavanne and wife Billie Mary of Lake Charles; five grandchildren, John D. Chavanne, William R. Chavanne and wife Pauline, Douglas E. Chavanne and wife Jamie, Robert J. Chavanne, all of Lake Charles and Catherine M. Vezinat of Eldorado, OK; eight great grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; godchild, Ann Smith Hayes and husband Tony of Springfield, TX and her healthcare nurse of eleven years and very dear friend, Bobbie Kelley of Lake Charles. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, John T. Chavanne and two sisters, Mercedes Welch and Anna Mae Smith. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM Monday, January 12, 2015 at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Monsignor Jace Eskind will officate. Monsignor Charles DuBois will con-celebrate. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation Sunday will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation Monday will be from 8:00 AM until 9:15 AM in the funeral home. The family of Mrs. Chavanne wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Becnel, the nurses and staff of Christus St. Patrick's Hospital and Suzanne Guillory and Gloria Rubit for their excellence in caring for their mother. Memorial donations may be made to Christus St. Patrick's Hospice.
