Geniveve S. “Genny” Dupin (Maw Maw), 85, of Lake Charles passed away Monday, June 6, 2016, in the comfort of her home.
Mrs. Dupin was born in Oberlin, Louisiana, and lived the majority of her life in Lake Charles. She graduated from Oberlin High School and attended Elliott’s Business College and McNeese State University for Business Management. Mrs. Dupin had a successful career with Conoco for 32 years. Following her retirement, she enjoyed working with the United Way. She was a past president of the American Business Women’s Association and was named Top Ten Business Woman in 1979. She was also an active member of the VFW Ladies’ Auxillary.
Mrs. Dupin was devoted to her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She especially loved holding the sleeping babies.
In her retirement years, she loved to cook, work in her yard, make candy during the holidays, and visit with family and friends. Her lifetime was filled with travel, internationally and throughout the states. She was a member of the FMCA, Cruisin Cajuns, and Texas Outlaws Motor Coach Association. Mrs. Dupin was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and an active member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church.
She leaves to honor her memory, two daughters, Cheryl Dupin Deshotel and husband David, and Becky Dupin Myers and husband John D., both of Lake Charles; four grandchildren, Tiffany Myers Hitdlebaugh and husband David, Lisa Myers Cupit and husband Travis, Jason Price Young and fiancé Tracy Badgett, and Kimberly Dawn Young; five great-grandchildren, Aaron John, Reid Matthew, and Grayson Michael Hitdlebaugh, Nola Kate Young, and Drew Austin Cupit; and, her very best friend, Louella Fontenot.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, William M. “Buddy” Dupin, her parents, William and Ella Shuff; two sisters, Lenora Granger and Ruth Ryder; and, three brothers, Curtis Shuff, William Shuff, and Clifford Shuff.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Dupin’s caregivers, Teresa Drake, LeeAnna Stevens, Rhonda Bilbo, and Joan Myers, for the excellent care and love they have shown for Mrs. Dupin throughout her illness. Also, thank you to the nurses and staff of Amedisys Hospice for their care and kindness during this difficult time.
Pallbearers for the services will be John Myers, David Deshotel, Jason Young, David Hitdlebaugh, Travis Cupit, and Kim Wills. Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Dupin’s great grandchildren, Aaron Hitdlebaugh, Reid Hitdlebaugh, and Drew Cupit.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon George Carr will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation on Tuesday will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation on Wednesday will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
