George Alton Wolfe, 78, died Wednesday, August 8, 2012, in a local hospital, with his loving family at his side.
Born to Joseph Alton and Eva Mae Adaway Wolfe, Mr. Wolfe was a lifelong resident of Cameron Parish. Until 1967 he was an offshore tool engineer for Schlumberger for twelve years. He worked for 27 years as a tugboat captain for Cameron Construction, Rogers Boat Rentals and Crain Brothers. From 1998 until 2002, he drove the bus for the Cameron Parish Headstart program, and ended his working career in 2009 as driver for the Cameron Council on Aging. Mr. Wolfe was a charter member of the Grand Lake Community Church, where he faithfully served and sang in the choir. He enjoyed working cows, shrimping, playing music, and singing with family and friends, but found his greatest joy in spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Wolfe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and a true friend to many.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 57 years, Barbara Trahan Wolfe of Grand Lake; four sons, George "Snookum" Wolfe and wife Sybil of Grand Lake, Lane Wolfe and wife Bonnie of Baton Rouge, Gregory Wolfe and wife Margaret of Creole, and Carl Wolfe and companion Simone Soileau, also of Grand Lake; two daughters, Bridget Curtis and husband Jim of Ragley and Cindy Wolfe of Grand Lake; one sister, Lois Gordon of Lake Charles; one brother, Ricky Wolfe and wife Gail of Lake Charles; sister-in law, Boonie Trahan of Grand Lake; three brothers-in-law, James Trahan and wife Patty of Big Lake, Francis Trahan and wife Evon of DeQuincy, and Jessie Nunez and wife Karen of Grand Lake; seven grandchildren, Robbie LaFosse and wife Erin, Tina Wolfe, Sabrinia Conner and husband Mike, Joe Wolfe and wife Jamie, Allison Curtis, Mica LeBoeuf and Shelby Wolfe; eleven great grandchildren, Jaleigh, Hunter, Jaxon, Jaden, Kevin, Jerick, Millie, Bree, Jacie, BraeLynn, and Jozee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Wolfe was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law, Wilson Gordon, Jack Trahan, A. D. Trahan, and Pete Trahan, and step granddaughter, Kimberly Curtis.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at Johnson Funeral Home. The Reverends Alton Hodnet and Lee Whitley will officiate. Interment will be at Sweet Lake/Grand Lake Community Cemetery in Sweet Lake. Visitation will be on Friday from 5 until 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until service time.
The family would like to express their grateful appreciation for the compassionate care given their beloved husband and father to the nurses and staff of Christus St. Patrick Hospital and Hospice and Dubuis Hospital, and to Mr. Wolfe's special care nurses, Delia, Tessie, Paulita, Delicia, Susan, Pam, Paula, Sally, Rhonda, Tameka, and Mona, with a very special thank you to Suzanne for holding his hand and praying with him.
