George Frank Barbier Jr., 84, a World War II disabled Veteran, of Sulphur passed away on June 24, 2012. George was a native of New Orleans and had been in Sulphur since 1948. He attended Jesuit High School in New Orleans where he played football and later graduated from Warren Easton High School. After high school he attended LSU and served his country in World War II for the U S Navy, where he was based at Pearl Harbor. Upon retiring from the military he worked at Citgo and later went into the welding supply business. George was owner of Barbiers Bazaar gift shop in Sulphur and remained in the welding supply business until retirement. He was a member of the Lions Club, a bowling league, the SWLA Fishing Club, and several Mardi Gras Krewes. George enjoyed deep-sea fishing, hunting, dancing, story- telling and was a champion arm wrestler. George is survived by his wife of 61 years, Katharine Barbier of Sulphur; two sons, George Tony Barbier III of Lake Charles and Matthew J. Barbier and wife, Debbie of Moss Bluff; three daughters, Robbie Guillory of Sulphur, Katsie Fanelli and husband, Marcello of San Diego, CA and Desiree Barbier of Sulphur; sister, Geri Zauner of Slidell, LA; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mabel and George Barbier Sr. A private family service will be held at a later date.
