George Joseph Vander Hey

May 6, 1983 — March 31, 2024

George Joseph Vander Hey, 40, of Sulphur, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

George was a proud 2001 graduate of Sulphur High School, and a loyal supporter of the blue and gold. He was passionate about floral design, working for a few local florists before opening his own shop, George’s House of Flowers, in 2019.   He was a member of the International Student Exchange and hosted students for 6 years.  George was a member of the West Calcasieu Chamber of Commerce, multiple Mardi Gras krewes, and Life United Church of Lake Charles.  George was compassionate about his community and volunteered to help anyone in need. He was committed to the service of others, and his devotion was unmistakable during the hurricanes of 2020.  George had a smile that would light up a room and a personality to match. He will be remembered for his love of life, family, and community.

Left to cherish his memory are his husband of 8 years, John Ryan Adcock; parents, Shelley and George Vander Hey of Sulphur; brother Gabriel Vander Hey of New Orleans, sister, Katie Baker (Wes) of Sulphur; Godchildren, Tatum Vander Hey of Sulphur, Kadence Conway of Lake Charles, Elias Sherer of Westlake; nephew, River Baker of Alabama; and great niece, Zhavia Baker of Alabama. He will also be greatly missed by his mother-in-law, Shelly Adcock; Sisters-in-law, Gina Adcock Scott (Danny) and Amy Adcock; nephew, Tristan Scott; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, exchange students, beloved dogs, and chosen families.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Herbert and Nelva Courville of Lake Charles; paternal grandparents, George and Kate Vander Hey of Westlake; and his Godfather and uncle, Tony Courville.

George’s life will be celebrated 11AM, Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home of Sulphur.  Visitation will be 4PM – 8PM, Wednesday and will resume at 9AM Thursday until the time of service at 11.
