George Nathan Murrell

June 8, 1925 — October 11, 2021

George Nathan Murrell, 96 years old, of Sulphur entered the gates of Heaven on October 11, 2021, at his home in Sulphur, LA.  He died of a natural death.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Murrell, & Emelia Benoit Murrell; his loving wife, Mary Joyce Venable Murrell; his son, Kelvin Neil Murrell; his siblings, Gernsie Leger, Wayne Murrell, Norma Nassar, Raymond Murrell, Veronica Trahan & Billy Murrell; and his granddaughter, Leigh Ann Reasoner. 

George is survived by his son, Gerald Murrell (Sylvia); his daughter, Vicki Troesser (John); his siblings; Calvin Murrell (Retha), Yvonne Trahan (Floyd), France Helmer, James Murrell (Linda Kay), Mary Louise LaBove (Sandres), & Stella Johnson (William) his grandchildren; Kristi Doucet, Kelli Mousset (Xavier), Joshua Reasoner (Chansie), Katrina Armer, Kyle Armer & Karah Wilson (Timmy); his great grandchildren, Kaytlin Doucet, Allee Doucet, Molli Miller, Adah Doucet, Waylon Miller, Scotti Clare Doucet, Jon Mousset, Johnathan Reasoner, Sawyer Speer, Isabella Wilks, Bryan Wilks, Emily Graves, Conner Wilson, Carter Wilson, Marlee Miller, Madden Miller, Eli Armer & Jackson Armer.  He also had several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

George Murrell was born on June 8, 1925, in Church Point, LA.  George lived in Church Point, Crowley, Winnie, and Sulphur.  He earned his high school diploma.  He worked as a farmer at a young age for many years, was a gas attendant, an assistant on a pipeline with Uncle Tee-tan, a welder at Endicott and Stagg iron works, an operator, supervisor retiree for PPG, one of the original owners of High Hope Care Center & owner of Sportsman’s Paradise.

George was a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church.  He was a very faithful catholic Christian.  George enjoyed Katherine who brought him communion.  George was a very loving & loyal son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, cousin, uncle, Paran and friend.  He always treated his wife like a queen.  George taught his children how to survive life by his skills, knowledge, talents, common sense, hard work & most of all his faith.

George had a passion for doing things for his late wife, Joyce, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  He has a passion for growing a garden.  Most of all, he & his brother Calvin grew a big garden together for years.  George loved to hunt & fish.  He had a passion for cooking & seasoning food.  George was known for his famous stuffed brisket & roast beef.  George loved to travel with his late wife, Joyce, his family, & his friends.

George will be deeply missed by his family & friends.

Services for George will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at 10 AM at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Sulphur, LA.  Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines Cemetery South.  Pallbearers will be Waylon Miller, Joshua Reasoner, Johnathan Reasoner, Kyle Armer, Terry Murrell, Todd Murrell, Brian Trahan, and Clint LaBove.  Visitation for George will be held on Monday, October 18, 2021, at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home from 4-9 PM with a rosary at 6:30 PM and will resume on Tuesday at the funeral home 8:30 AM until time to leave for the service.
