George W. Kelley

George W. Kelley, 87, exited this world Friday September 6, 2013 after a brief illness.

Mr. George was born to George Francis and Elder Nunez Kelley, October 8, 1925. He was raised in Cameron with his four brothers and sister. As a youngster he worked on the Welch Ferry. Mr. Kelley served in the U. S. Navy in Okinawa Japan during W. W. II. Upon his discharge he worked for Steeds Diesel Service eventually opening a Phillips 66 service station and dump truck contracting service. He also worked for Cameron Construction, Cameron Offshore Service, and the Cameron Parish Sheriff's Department under Sheriff Sono Savoie, where he retired.

Mr. George courted and married his lifelong love, Marie Murphy on June 14, 1947, they enjoyed almost sixty-six years of a loving relationship with heartaches endured together namely the lost of little Chester which neither ever recovered from. Mr. George's family was the thrust of his life, keeping him busy doing PawPaw things. For the past four years Mr. George spent almost all of his working hours tending to his sweetheart Marie whom passed March 10 of this year to a lengthy illness. After her passing, his will was taken and his prayer was to go meet her, which a loving God heard and mercifully answered.

Mr. George was preceded in death by his wife Marie; son Chester Lee Kelley; his parents; brothers, Ed, Donald, Gary and Floyd, and a sister Elsie Kelley Roberts.

He is survived by his son, Jimmy Kelley and wife Mona; daughter, Evelyn Kelley; granddaughter, Kayla Lambert and husband Lyle, and grandson Daniel Lee Kelley.

His Memorial Service will be at 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 8, 2013 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverends Francis LaRocque, Wallace Primeaux and Barry Kelley will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will be, Sunday, from 10:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Kelley Cemetery in Cameron, LA.
