Georgia Mary Leger Menard, 87, of Lake Charles passed away Thursday, October 9, 2014 in a local healthcare facility. Mrs. Menard was born in Coulée Croche section of St. Landry Parish, now Cankton, LA to Martin and Olivia Richard Leger. She was raised in Pine Island and has lived in years Lake Charles since 1945. Mrs. Menard devoted her live and her love to her family. She was the famous #1 fan of Phil Menard and the LA Travelers as she encouraged, supported and followed her husband for over sixty years. She, together with her husband, was a founding member of the Cajun French Music Association. Her greatest joy was taking care of her family and spending time with her grandchildren. During her younger years, she was a member of the Ladies Bowling League and found much pride in being recognized as the longest active lifetime member of Weight Watchers. She was legendary for her homemade roast and brown gravy. She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband of seventy two years, Phil Menard; three sons, Herman Menard and wife Glenda of Lake Charles; Dale Menard and wife Cindy of Sulphur and Dr. Byron Menard of Houston; one daughter, Patricia Gorman and husband Charles of Lake Charles; six grandchildren, Chuck Gorman and wife Jennifer, Todd Gorman and wife Tiffany, Michael Menard and wife Jolene, Jason Menard and wife England, Mandi Boyette and husband Michael and Brandi Ray and husband Hunter and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded death by her parents and siblings, Gus Leger, Gerfy Leger and Ameda McKievier. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Sunday, October 12, 2014 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Monsignor Harry Greig will officiate. Interment will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation Saturday will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation Sunday will be from 8:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home. Mrs. Menard's family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the Doctor's and staff of Landmark of Lake Charles Retirement Home and Brighton Bridge Hospice for their excellence in care and compassion.
