Georgiann M. Compton

Georgiann Marie Dressler Compton died peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at the age of 85.

 

Georgiann was born on September 29, 1935 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Her parents were Randolph Hearst Dressler Sr., Daisy Emert Dressler, and Lucy Brantley Dressler. She graduated from St. Charles Academy in 1954 where she made lifelong friends that she continued to see throughout her life. After her children were born, she continued her education and earned a degree as a registered nurse from McNeese State University in 1979. Through her work as a nurse, Georgiann met her beloved husband, Bill Compton. They were married on June 15, 1979 and have shared a life filled with joy and companionship. 

 

Georgiann had a deep faith and was a devout Catholic who shared her faith in Christ with her family, friends, and numerous people she met along the way. She always made time to listen to others, and she treated everyone with patience, kindness, and respect.  She loved to read, travel, dance, listen to music, go to church, and have Sunday dinners with her family. She lived a life filled with love, faith, and family.

 

She is survived by her loving husband, Bill Compton; her brother, Waddell Burge; her sister-in-law, Jan Dressler, her 10 children, 2 sons-in-law, 3 daughters-in-law, 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild. She leaves behind her beloved children to mourn her passing; Deborah Bertrand, Jimmie “Jimbo” Watson, Jr. (Charity), Kenny Watson (Darla), Colleen Watson, Sharon Schon (Jim), Jessica Watson, Linda Watson, Angela Runyon (Chuck), Charlie Watson (Jennifer), and Ardella Hill. Her 18 grandchildren were her pride and joy: Erika Harrington, Bradley Bertrand, Keith Bertrand, Justin Bertrand, Cameron Watson, Isabella Watson, Jimmie “Trey” Watson III, Tara Pedersen, Lauren Williams, Rachel Martin, Nicolas Armstrong, John Michael Watson, Christopher Watson, Luke Runyon, Hope Runyon, Jack Watson, Anna Watson, and Sarah Hill.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Randolph Dressler, Daisy Emert Dressler, and Lucy Dressler; her brothers, Irvin Dressler, Randolph “Buddy” Dressler, Jr., Ervin Burge, and Francis Dressler; her sister, Honore Faithe “Tootsie” Burton; her son-in-law, Mark Bertrand; and her great grandson, Erik Pedersen.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church led by Monsignor Jace Eskind on Thursday, December 10 at 1 pm with visitation before the Mass beginning at noon.  Burial will follow at Prien Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held at University Baptist Church in Lake Charles under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 9 from 5 pm – 8 pm with a rosary being prayed at 6:30 pm.
