Gerald Collins Leger, 74, of Lake Charles died at 6:17 PM on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at home with his wife and son. Mr. Leger was born at his parents' home in Iowa, LA on August 9, 1939 and lived most of his life on the family farm. He was a graduate of Iowa High School and attended McNeese College before joining the National Guard. He was proud of the fact that he went to cook's training school and taught "those yankees" how to cook gumbo. Jerry's real passion was flying. He spent years sitting behind the stick in a crop duster plane. He was a Christian who loved to read and discuss his Bible with his friends. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Virginia "Jinny" Swain Leger of Lake Charles; daughters, Andrea (Andi) Leger of Houston, TX and Sarah Leger Little of Marietta, PA; a son, Michael Leger of Lake Charles; a sister, Claudia Leger of Houston, TX; and three grandchildren, Joshua Leger, Abby Perkins, and Elijah Leger. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney Collins Leger and Esther Fontenot Leger and his first wife, Dolores Natali Leger. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 in Pinehill Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. The Rev. Geoffrey Britt will officiate. The family would like to thank Christus Hospice and especially Leah and Roxanne for their loving care of Jerry during his last several months.
