Geraldine Fontenot Lewis

May 2, 1930 — June 27, 2016

Geraldine Fontenot Lewis, 86, of Lake Charles departed this life on Monday, June 27, 2016 in a Sulphur hospital.

 

Geraldine was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles.  She was born on May 2, 1930 to the late Roman and Alice Fontenot.

 

Geraldine attended Second Ward Elementary School as a child and was a proud graduate of W. O. Boston High School.  She was a graduate of Grambling State University and completed beauty school.  She was a dedicated educator with more than 40 years of service with Calcasieu Parish Public School Board.  She was employed as a Foster Grandparent with Big Brother Big Sisters of SWLA at the time of her death.

 

She accepted Christ early in life as a member of Evergreen Baptist Church.  Years later, she became an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  She remained active until her health declined two years ago.

 

She will always be remembered for her love of fashion, hair >

 

Geraldine was an active member of the Unique Beauticians Club and held several leadership positions and received numerous awards throughout her tenure as an active cosmetologist.

 

Those left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Cheryl Lewis of Lake Charles; a grandson, Jeremy Wilson Mitchell and his father, Jessie Mitchell both of Lake Charles; two sisters, Helen Thompson of Grand Prairie, TX and Evelyn Perron of San Antonio, TX; and other family members, Wilson Lewis, Jr., Linda Lewis, Henry Wright, Zan Ryan, Wilfred Placide, Sr. and family; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roman and Alice Fontenot; brothers, Harvey, Sidney, Royal, Erb, and Wilbert Fontenot, Sr.; sisters, Gladys Trimble and Doris Anderson; and husband of more than 40 years of marriage, Wilson Lewis, Sr.

 

Private services were held on Thursday, June 30, 2016 to celebrate the beautiful Geraldine.  The Rev. Wayne LeBleu officiated.  Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.  The family thanks everyone for respecting Geraldine’s wishes and for their thoughts and prayers.

 

Her family would like to thank all of her doctors for the excellent care she received.  Special thanks to the ICU staff at Christus St. Patrick Hospital and Cornerstone Acute Care Hospital.
