Gertie Mae LaPointe, 82, of Iowa, LA died Monday, August 29, 2016 in her residence surrounded by her loving family.

 

Gertie was born on September 30, 1933 in Cow Island, LA to William and Elizabeth Abshire. She was a lady of strong faith and was known for praying for all people who needed prayers. Gertie loved playing dominoes, dancing, and being around friends and family especially all of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed baking and playing yatzi.

 

Those left to cherish her memory are her four children, William P. LaPointe and wife Ruby LeLeux, Robert Joseph LaPointe, Dorothy Mae LaPointe and husband James Sattler, and Kathy Ann Crysel and husband Harvey; and numerous grandchildren; and great grandchildren; two sisters, Annie Fontenot and husband Berlie, Mary Young and Husband Kenneth; half brother, Melard Breaux; and two close loving friends, Juanita Hardy, Mrs. Doris, and Mrs. Renee.

 

She is preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Lenis Paul LaPointe; grandson, Justin LaPointe; two daughters in law, Alydia LaPointe and Carleen LaPointe; and brothers, Dewey Breaux and Louis Abshire; and one half sister, Veronica LeBouef.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Iowa, LA. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will resume from 8:00 AM until 12:30 PM on Wednesday August 31, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Lacassine Cemetery. Father Dismas Mauk will officiate services.
