Gladys Marie Bourque, 91, of Lake Charles, died Saturday April 12, 2014 in a local hospital following an extended illness. Gladys was born in Grand Lake and lived in Lake Charles most of her life. She attended school in Grand Lake and completed her education after moving to Lake Charles. She retired from Muller's Department Store after working there for 25 years. Gladys was a dedicated member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church where she was actively involved in the Altar Society, the Catholic Charismatic Center, and also made a Cursillo. She later was a member of Mended Hearts. She loved to dance and read and she enjoyed visiting with friends and family. Preceding Gladys in death are her parents, Elbert and Rosa Broussard Matthews; beloved husband, Julius Bourque, and a son, James R. Bourque. Those left to honor her memory are two sons, Johnny C. Bourque and wife Elaine and Brad H. Bourque and wife Sherry; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Bourque; three daughters, Clo Ellen M. Mere and husband Johnny, Cheryl A. Leger, and Mary L. Simon and husband Frank; 19 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be today, April 14, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Home from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until 12:30 PM at the Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church with Father John Huckaby serving as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jason Bourque, Joey Bourque, Trent Mere, Paul Simon, and Jude Simon. Honorary pallbearer will also be grandsons, James Bourque, Jr, John John Bourque, and Christopher Bourque. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the compassionate and loving care provided to our mother over the years by Gloria and Kim Landry.
